Owner & Lead Filmmaker
Matt, from Charlotte, NC, founded Life Stage Films after graduating from Appalachian State University. Matt has been recognized as one of the top 25 event filmmakers in the world (read the full story) and reserves a very small amount of weddings every year for the families that want the top-shelf, “couture” experience. Matt travels the world but resides in Wilmington, NC.
“I want to make an impact. It’s hard not to love a job where I get to have a camera in my hand and document happy moments…your moments…in a way that will blow you away. I want your wedding film to be something you wear out and are excited to share, and hopefully remind you why you fell in love in the first place on those not so fun days of marriage.”
Studio Manager & Lead Editor
Kara grew up in Charlotte, NC, and graduated (early) from UNC Wilmington with a film degree. Editing has been a passion of hers before she was even a teenager. Kara runs this place! As Studio Manager and Lead Editor, she is the wizard behind the curtain at Life Stage Films. She lives in historic downtown Wilmington with her husband, Shaun. See their courthouse wedding here.
“Every time I start editing a wedding I love getting to create a unique story with a great message that reflects the couple and their big day. Each couple is so different it is a fun challenge to make their film fit their style. Editing has been my passion for almost 10 years now and being able to do what I love in such a creative, uplifting, and inspiring environment is just a joy. I feel very fortunate to be a part of Life Stage Films and to get to work with such a great group of talented people.”
Associate Filmmaker + Editor
From the small NC mountain town of Brevard, Chris found his way to the beach and graduated from UNC Wilmington with a Film Editing degree. Chris assists Kara with all of our Feature Films and Highlights Films. He is also known for his talents as one of our Signature filmmakers. He also plays a mean guitar in his local band, Apollo Fire.
“At the heart of what I do, I love telling stories. I feel incredibly fortunate to not only do what I love everyday, but to also be able to be a part of something truly important. With every new wedding film, I take a moment to reflect that this is the biggest day in your lives, and I feel honored to be able to be a part of it.”
A mid-western gal from Michigan, Amy found herself planted in the South for Wilmington’s film industry. Becoming an actress after studying film/theater at Huntington University, she found her love for documenting weddings with Life Stage. She is the busiest filmmaker at Life Stage Films and as one of the few female videographers in the Southeast, she brings a feminine approach to wedding films. She resides in Wilmington, NC, with her husband, Nick, and children, Eli and Ada.
“One of the things I love most about filming weddings is the time BEFORE the wedding, when you and your girls are getting ready. Seeing the hectic-ness, the laughing and crying, all gets me excited for the moments during the rest of your day I know I’ll have the privilege of filming. It’s a rewarding job!”
Being a fan of movies of all shapes and sizes since childhood, Kenny has always had a strong passion for being a storyteller through filmmaking. After moving to Wilmington from the midwest in 2008, Kenny graduated from UNCW’s film studies program with a bachelors degree in 2012 and has been working in the film industry ever since. Kenny’s love for cinematography, documentary filming, and narrative realism compels him to capture stunning videos for Life Stage Films.
“There is nothing better in a film than the moments where the viewer can instantly have an emotional connection with the image. When I begin each wedding I shoot for Life Stage I strive to find the small moments like these, the ones that usually go unnoticed. These moments are immensely powerful and spark memories of the wedding day that are truly unique and amazing to each couple.”
