Things we LOVED about this wedding (in no particular order):

1. The way that Todd and Becca Jane look at each other when they think no one is watching
2. Becca Jane’s patriotic shoes
3. The couples elegant dance moves
4. And how two best friends became sisters (in-law)

From the Bride and Groom:

Q. What is your favorite activity to do together?
A. Running! We’ll have our shoes there for a photo 🙂 We love running races and we’ve run in lots of races in DC and Charleston. Even thought Todd is a little faster than me he never leaves me behind! We always cross the finish line together.

Q. The Proposal: How did it happen?
A. Todd and I have been living apart since we met. He’s down in Charleston and I’m in DC. One weekend in October when he was up here visiting we decided to take a walk through the monuments at night before dinner (I’d been wanting to see the new MLK monument). It was also something we had done one of the first weekends we spent together in DC. It was Memorial Day weekend and all the monuments were covered with flowers and letters to soldiers. We were both extremely moved by it all at the WWII Memorial and Todd said he knew he wanted to propose there. So – on our walk – when we got to the middle of the WWII Memorial he gave his camera to some strangers to snap a pic and got down on one knee!
Not only that, but he had arranged for my parents (From NC) to be waiting for us at dinner along with his brother John and wife Candice (from Vermont)! It was so amazing to celebrate with our parents on the spot.
BTW – we met because my best friend from college married Todd’s little brother. They had been trying to set us up for a few years but I was in Colorado…Todd was in Afghanistan….so it never worked out. We finally met at their wedding in May of 2010 and we quickly decided that we were going to make this long distance thing work. They are our matron of honor/best man.

Q. What are you looking forward to most on your Wedding day?
A. Dancing with Todd! We love to dance! I’m looking forward to the ceremony as well because it is going to be very special. We’re are going to be bursting with excitement because this wedding marks the end of our long distance relationship! Once we get hitched – no more goodbyes! We just want to celebrate with family and friends. We expect a pretty solid showing on the dance floor.
We’re also doing a run on the morning of the wedding. I think it’s going to be such a fun thing to do with our guests and a good way to run out some of our nervous jitters! We created a 5K route that takes people on quick tour of the UNC campus. The boys and girls will run seperately though because we won’t want to see each other.
I’m super excited about the surprise ice cream sundae bar! I think the decor will be pretty amazing too. Instead of party favors we are donating money to the Wounded Warrior project but that will just be written on the menu card.

Q. List any UNIQUE activities planned for the reception that your excited for??
A. There will be a ‘rememberance’ table set up and it will be introduced by Todd’s brother Jason after my dad gives a welcome. Also, as a SURPRISE to my ice cream loving fiancé – I have arranged for an ice cream sundae bar to be set up when we do late night snacks. He love love love lovessss ice cream and he is going to be SO excited! It would be awesome to get his reaction. (He’s very animated….and handsome!)

Q. Is there anything else that is extra special to you about this day?
A.The fabric that my flowers will be wrapped in is from my mother’s wedding gown. The rememberance table. The escort card table will have family members wedding photos on it.
I think we are going to make sure the band plays “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” and we’ll probably have a lot of fun with that one. Todd and his whole family are very musical so don’t be surprised if one of them ends up with a mic in their hand!
